Dan Perjovschi

Dan Perjovschi (b. 1961, Sibiu) is an artist who has focused his production on the medium of drawing since the 1990s. His essential style is recognizable for the immediacy of the imagery based on clear lines, and the sarcastic viewpoint with which he unmasks the perverse mechanisms of the world of art and international politics. For the Disegni section Perjovschi makes a site-specific piece on the floor of the stand of the Gregor Podnar Gallery. Based on a work originally presented at the Romanian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 1999 and recently reprised for Documenta 2022, where the artist utilized the pavement of a public space, his latest drawings reflect on the political situation with clear references to the war in Ukraine and its coverage by the international press and Russian propaganda. Visitors are invited to choose one work from the linoleum floor of the stand, which the gallerist delivers directly to the buyer until the artist’s piece has completely vanished. In this way, the sale of the drawings on the floor vividly alters the appearance of the stand, bearing witness to the commercial dynamics of contemporary art.
