Gyula Sági

Gyula Sági (b. 1987, Varpalota) finds inspiration for his drawings in the technological aesthetic, digital imagery and organic natural forms at the same time. In the series Analog Noise (since 2016), Sági has focused on the use of ink on paper to represent possible radio waves, seismographic analyses or detections of tectonic movements. The fascination with the language of technological instruments and machines before the advent of the computer, and with scientific graphics, is combined with observation of nature, giving rise to forms that might appear to be clouds, silhouettes of mountains, volcanic eruptions, cross-sections of the earth’s crust in tones ranging from red to blue to grey. His research reflects an overlap between excerpts of nature and technological production, generating an intentionally confused result. Sági’s forms channel geometric abstraction into patterns and repetitions of sematic constants. Actually, the gestural character of the tradition of painting becomes the dominant factor of these digital and clinical schemes. The intense, tight repetition of lines is the result of a path of meditation that accepts the incursions of the unexpected, such as patches of colour or splashes of ink.
