Petrică Ștefan (b. 1988, Resita) is a painter trained at the art academy of Timisoara, where abstract art has been the guideline for decades. Due to the isolation caused by the lockdown, over the last two years the artist has focused on drawing, opting for a mixture of acrylic and oils on paper, often combined with ink. Ștefan explores the possible relationships between geometric and organic elements in a continuing potential dynamism. Starting with a central element whose material appearance is accentuated, the composition develops along the perimeter of the original form, in lines of colour overlaid to produce a growing grid of colour. The artist plays with two compositional tracks in perpetual dialogue, which could expand in an infinite enlargement or diminish to the point of imploding into the original organic form.
