Cemile Sahin (b. 1990, Wiesbaden) is an author, artist, and filmmaker. The points of origin for her films, photographs, sculptures, sound, and text works are often narratives and found images, which she restages in her works. Freely deploying different media, without privileging one or the other, her work embodies today s synchronicity of image- and text-based communications. Integrating images into her books and text in her image-world, Sahin moves with extraordinary agility between words and pictures, still and moving images. She provides visibility for Kurds in her work by contextualizing oppression through history. Questions about the instrumentalization of media as well as the significance of different perspectives for the writing of history are fundamental to her practice.
In my work I deal with how and where history is created and presented. My starting points are images, historical events, documentary materials and stories that deal with themes like violence, surveillance, armed conflict and military actors. A special focus lies on the way technology is used in wars.
