Curtis Talwst Santiago (b. 1979, Edmonton) is a multidisciplinary artist who explores questions of memory and ancestry. Using the ability to access generational knowledge through imaginative remembering, he works with lost and hidden histories to understand and discover his diasporic heritage. His work consists of paintings, large-scale installations that evoke spaces where people celebrate and approach the importance of joy , sculptures, and miniature scenes dioramas that depict detailed, small, intimate scenes of community, everyday life, but also the particularities of diasporic culture.
The cinematic tableaus of my Infinity Series (2007-ongoing) address issues such as migration, colonialism, and injustice, with new works extolling the mundane alongside fantasy, intimacy and the joy and celebration of family and childhood.
