For Disegni, Huang Hai-Hsin (b. 1984, Taipei) presents a new series on Italian everyday life and its customs, produced following a two-month stay in our country. Like travel diaries, her drawings bring out tragicomic situations, starting with apparently unimportant little scenes of everyday life. A very sharp gaze combined with an innate ability to investigate produce surreal, familiar tableaux in public spaces such as parks or museums. Like a novelist, Hai-Hsin describes the aspects that form an obvious contrast with her vantage point, combining elements of sarcasm and horror in original research that is open to the unknown. Around a work in large format placed at the centre of the stand, a series of smaller works on paper appear like notes, satellites that are essential for the construction of the main central scene.
I draw the amusing and awkward moments and I focus on all kinds of intriguing plots or the theatrical atmosphere from daily life.
