Masha Silchenko (b. 1994, Odesa) creates works in various media, such as ceramics, illustration, and painting. Despite these different approaches, the focus of her practice is always on dream-like phenomena and the magical stories they can tell. For instance, ceramics take on a fragmentary expression through the artist s choice of form, reminiscent of torn block sheets, which add to the fleeting yet fragile narrative. Silchenko also embeds poetic texts, thoughts, and stories in her works, which she writes with bleach on canvas fabrics, for example. In this way, through stories and symbols, she also conveys messages, sometimes explicit, sometimes more subtle. In addition to universal themes such as love and loss, there are also references to her birthplace, Ukraine, and its political climate laced throughout her work.
In this floating universe, between craftsmanship and decorative tradition, I m trying to bring to life a world of fantastic figures and ghosts inhabiting materials and objects.
