Angharad Williams (Ynys Môn) is a multifaceted artist with a practice committed to bringing together painting, sculpture, and ready-made within site-responsive installations and exhibitions. Central to her most recent body of work is the intricate play between interiority and exteriority, the hidden and the revealed. By probing these dualities, Williams investigates histories of violence and pacifism, and reflects our contemporary socio-political landscape. Through this, layered inquiries into freedom, security and individual agency emerge. Williams’s adaptation or co-optation of technology from one domain to another underscores her fascination with sight, scale, and the fluid boundaries between distinct uses. As these technologies—such as thermal cameras—and their representations weave themselves into various aspects of daily life, they often become embedded and invisible, or, in other words hidden in plain sight. In Williams’s oeuvre, “witnessing” is not just a passive observation. It is a deeply articulated concept, emphasizing the profound realization of one’s position and responsibility in the world. In an era of overwhelming exposure and the ubiquity of technological voyeurism, she challenges the enduring quest of the human project.
My work prompts critical reflection on the dynamic systems that govern our lives and environment. I am often working from candid observations that grow into multi-faceted installations.
