Callum Innes (b. 1962, Edinburgh) has developed a very refined technique over the years that combines watercolours and pastels. Starting from the title that simply indicates the technical names of the pigments for the watercolour, the drawing is produced in a harmonious, restrained way, in constant pursuit of a balance between precise calculation of the effect and freedom of expression. Every work is an ode to the brightness of colour, in spite of the compositional minimalism. Innes has experimented with various compositional solutions, from reflections on pure geometric forms to more casual uses of colour, with continuing variations from watercolour to pastel. The artist investigates the unique material properties of the colours utilized, combining them in careful balances vibrant tones.
