Sara Naim

Sara Naim (b. 1987, London) is a Syrian artist raised in London and Dubai who investigates the notion of boundary. Starting from the idea of how our perception is shaped by a sense of proportion, she explores the physicality of forms, specifically addressing their confines, and focusing on the terms through which a border can be defined in its micro and macro designation. Her works are filled with issues that question the sense of shape itself, with the intent of going beyond fixed constructs. Her sculptures become shapeless, almost collapsing objects that seep into space. Borderless realities that portray the complex status of artificially defined boundaries, freeing frames for potential acts of re-positioning and re-definition of their rims, or better of their selves. The fragile line between interiority and exteriority dotted around the creation of an identity becomes one of the artist’s point of attention, focusing on what, in appearance, is considered the differentiation between subject and object. Transcending this demarcation, as well as the line set between the dimensions of time and space, the sculptures Naim presents in Present Future offer a new translation of the relation between physical form and conceptual development, deconstructing the notion of fixed definitions.
