Simon Denny’s (b. 1982, Auckland) research-based practice has been investigating the effects of the development of contemporary technologies on society, examining their structures, their visual languages, even the personalities who are behind them. In recent years his works have addressed the relationship between evolution and obsolescence in a corporate and neoliberal technological cultural industry orienting mass audiences and impacting on the biosphere. Acting as a digital anthropologist, Denny’s interpretive studies on global capitalism and the digital world deliver a poignant visual commentary on the current social and political landscape, leading towards unexpected corners through which to gain an understanding of the transformations that surround our daily dimension. His works become active cultural relics, clear visions of a present language, ready to be projected in the future as witnesses of an era.
